Bismarck-Mandan, North dakota

Basin Electric Headquarters is located in Bismarck, along with the administrative offices of Dakota Coal Company and Dakota Gasification Company.

As North Dakota’s capital city, Bismarck is home to over 70,000 residents and offers the perfect blend of rural serenity and city conveniences. The Bismarck-Mandan area provides a wide range of recreational activities, including some of North America’s best fishing and hunting opportunities. Other attractions include golf courses, bicycle trails, a community symphony and theater, cross-country ski trails, art galleries, museums, and the Dakota Zoo.

Bismarck boasts an excellent public school system, several private schools, a two-year state college, and a private four-year university.

Situated along the Missouri River, the region is rich in history. The Lewis & Clark Expedition spent its first winter just 40 miles north of Bismarck. Additionally, Ft. Abraham Lincoln, located six miles south of Mandan, was the home to Gen. George Custer and the Seventh Calvary before their fateful march to the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

Bismarck offers a strong sense of community, educational opportunities, and outdoor activities, making it a great place to live and work.

Beulah-Hazen, North dakota

Located just 70 miles northwest of Bismarck, the towns of Beulah and Hazen offer a range of activities and services for residents. Separated by only 10 miles, these communities are just minutes from Antelope Valley StationLeland Olds Station, and Dakota Gasification Company's Great Plains Synfuels Plant. Beulah is also home to a Transmission System Maintenance office.

With a combined population of nearly 6,000, the Beulah-Hazen area provides diverse cultural, educational, and recreational activities. Lake Sakakawea, less than 30 minutes way, offers excellent water sports and fishing. For additional amenities, Bismarck is just a short drive away, providing shopping, dining, and commercial airline access.

Stanton, North dakota

Nestled at the confluence of the Knife and Missouri Rivers, Stanton offers a peaceful lifestyle and a close-knit community. Just four miles from Leland Olds Station, Stanton provides a quiet yet convenient location for residents.

The town is rich in history, with the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site located just north of Stanton, offering insight into Native American culture and heritage.

Watford City, North dakota

Located near Watford City, Lonesome Creek Station operates in a rapidly growing city at the heart of the Bakken oil boom.

With residential, commercial, and industrial development expanding quickly, the city offers a blend of modern amenities and small-town charm. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the Maah Daah Hey Trail, and nearby hiking, hunting, and fishing opportunities. The city also features local shops, restaurants, and community events that highlight its rich history and growing economy.

Williston, North dakota

Located in the heart of North Dakota’s oil boom, Willison is a rapidly growing city known for its economic opportunities, modern infrastructure, and strong community spirit. Home to Pioneer Generation Station, Williston serves as a key hub for the energy industry, attracting businesses, workers, and new development.

Beyond its economic growth, Williston offers a variety of recreational and cultural attractions. The city boasts parks, golf courses, hiking trails, and outdoor activities along the scenic Missouri River. Residents and visitors can explore the city’s revitalized downtown, which carries the mottos “Downtown Williston: Worth the Walk.”

Gillette, WYoming

Dry Fork Station, Basin Electric's newest baseload power plant, is located seven miles north of Gillette, Wyoming.

Gillette offers a rich mix of outdoor recreation and cultural attractions. The area is surrounded by national landmarks, including the Big Horn Mountains, Black Hills National Forest, and Devil's Tower. Residents and visitors can enjoy hunting, fishing, rodeos, car and gun shows, and various recreation areas.

The city itself features a historic downtown district, as well as cultural and educational attractions such as the Gillette Planetarium, Rockpile Museum, Wright Museum, and Science Center/Adventuriarium.

Wheatland, WYoming

Located seven miles from Wheatland, Wyoming, Laramie River Station consists of three power generation units.

The area is known for its abundant outdoor recreation, with three major reservoirs offering fishing, swimming, sailing, and water sports. Nearby attractions include Glendo State ParkGuernsey State ParkDevil's Tower, and the Black Hills, providing endless opportunities for exploration and adventure.

History enthusiasts can also visit Guernsey, home to a section of the Oregon Trail, which preserves the legacy of early pioneers who traveled westward.

 

Brookings, South dakota

Deer Creek Station is situated in Brookings County. The largest nearby city, Brookings, is home to South Dakota State University, the state’s largest higher education institution, known for its research, innovation, and strong community presence.

Brookings offers a variety of cultural and recreational attractions, including the Children's Museum of South Dakota, a popular destination for families with interactive exhibits and learning opportunities. The city also features parks, trails, shopping, dining, and local events, making it a vibrant and welcoming community.

Groton, South dakota

Home of Basin Electric’s first peaking station, Groton Generation Station, Groton is a small but thriving community with a healthy business district and a wide range of recreational activities.

Residents and visitors can enjoy a swimming pool, ice skating rink, baseball/softball complex, soccer field, tennis courts, basketball court, and a city park featuring a playground and walking path. The town is also home to a nine-hole golf course.

Culbertson, Montana

Culbertson Generation Station is a natural gas-fueled peaking unit located eight miles northeast of Culbertson.

Culbertson is a small, welcoming community with easy access to the Missouri River, offering abundant opportunities for hunting, fishing, boating, and other water activities. The town also features a swimming pool, local museum, and a park with a pavilion and overnight camping area, making it a wonderful place for both residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors.
