Construction continues on the Leland Olds Station (LOS)-to-Tande transmission project, a new 162-mile, 345-kilovolt (kV) transmission line in northwest North Dakota.
“Foundation installation is progressing ahead of schedule and is currently 76% complete ,” Bobby Nasset, Basin Electric’s supervisor of civil engineering and project manager, said.
Another part of the project involves constructing a new substation, named Crane Creek, with 345/115-kV transformers for additional local power delivery in Mountrail County.
“This line adds capacity to transfer more electricity to and from northwest North Dakota and reduces congestion in the transmission system,” Nasset said. “The completion of the 345-kV loop also adds redundancy to the system for unplanned or storm-related outages.”
Next steps for the project include placing and assembling structures.
“Structure setting began in September, and the crew has assembled 71 out of 827 to date,” Nasset said. “Once enough structures are set, we will begin stringing conductor, which could start in mid-November.”
Energization of the LOS-to-Tande transmission line is planned for November 2026.
