Empower Youth

Everyone has the capacity to grow into a leader. The mission of Basin Electric’s Empower Youth program is to help high school students recognize that potential, and ready them for lives based on the cooperative mindset of selflessness and a commitment to bettering the world around them.

Basin Electric is seeking volunteers to assist with recruitment of high school students, freshman through senior, and organization and facilitation of sessions in each of three regions: eastern South Dakota, western South Dakota, and North Dakota.

Volunteers can be co-op employees, co-op retirees, teachers, civic-minded citizens – anyone who’s interested in helping guide students on their journeys of self-discovery and leadership development.

Student applications will be available January 2018. The first session to be held in spring 2018, followed by South Dakota Rural Electric Association’s three-day Youth Excursion in summer 2018, and a second session in fall 2018.
