Basin Electric and its subsidiaries are committed to the communities where our people and members work and live. Those communities have supported us throughout the years by providing a strong workforce, essential services and a sense of pride.
In appreciation for that support, Basin Electric expresses its cooperative spirit by extending a helping hand to our members and communities by donating time and funds to educational, charitable, fine arts and medical organizations.
Commitment to community is part of what being a cooperative is all about. That's why Basin Electric employees take great pride in supporting United Way each year through an employee fundraising campaign.
United Way chapters throughout Basin Electric's nine-state service territory - and throughout the world - support communities by aiding partnering agencies such as food pantries, domestic abuse shelters, American Red Cross, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Casual for a Cause and Jeans Days
Through its annual Casual for a Cause campaign, Basin Electric employees make a substantial donation to the Great Plains Food Bank and other agencies helping alleviate hunger. Employees make contributions to the cause and are allowed to wear jeans during the summer months. The campaign starts Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day.
Other months throughout the year may be designated as Casual for a Cause months as well. In addition, employees are allowed to dress casually on Fridays through the Jeans Day program. Employees pay $1, and that week's chosen charity receives the donated dollars.
Basin's Backyard Garden
Basin's Backyard Garden is tended by a group of employee volunteers at Basin Electric who work on their breaks, lunch hours, and after work.
Since its first year of production in 2014, volunteers have donated nearly 3,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food pantries.
The goals for the garden are to foster and strengthen community among employees, provide a source for charitable giving to local food pantries through the Hunger Free North Dakota program, and aid in teaching employees about cooperatives.
