Tim McCarthy, CEO of Sioux Valley Energy, a Basin Electric Class C member headquartered in Colman, South Dakota, has been elected to serve as the next president of the Touchstone Energy board of directors.

McCarthy joined the Touchstone Energy board in March 2019 and is entering the second year of his second term. He has held the positions of secretary/treasurer, vice president, and now president.

McCarthy has worked in the utility industry for 35 years and has experience in strategic advising, legislation, and leadership. Throughout his career, he has worked to improve the strength of cooperatives and deliver exceptional service to members. Prior to working at Sioux Valley Energy, McCarthy spent four years as CEO of a 22,000-member cooperative in Indiana.

“We are so excited to have Tim as board president. He brings strong leadership experience and demonstrated support for Touchstone Energy that will help us continue to grow and serve our members across the country,” said Jana Adams, Touchstone Energy's executive director. “Sioux Valley Energy has been a very engaged member of Touchstone Energy, using the ACSI (American Customer Satisfaction Index) program, national advertising, and has nominated several staff members to our advisory committees. We are looking froward to a great year with Tim leading the way.”

McCarthy hopes to continue his predecessor’s diligence in guiding the board in providing solid policy oversight and good governance for the organization. “From top to bottom, from board to staff to our member-staffed committees, the organization is blessed with well-meaning, experienced individuals with a strong commitment to Touchstone Energy and its underlying values of integrity, accountability, innovation, and care for community,” McCarthy said. “Helping cooperatives across the country provide the best service to members is what Touchstone Energy is all about.”

Touchstone Energy is celebrating its 25th year, and McCarthy said he is confident it will continue to serve, support, and unite cooperatives for another 25 years and beyond.
