Basin Electric's Executive Leadership Team announced the cooperative’s new mission statement and values during an all-employee meeting on Aug. 29. Participants in BE Leaders, a Learning and Development initiative at Basin Electric, worked together to focus on what it means to be a cooperative and put into words the mission and values that employees stand behind every day.

The new mission statement reads: “We are a safe, environmentally responsible cooperative that provides reliable, affordable power, products, and services to sustain the quality of life for our member-owners across rural America.”

This mission statement encompasses Basin Electric’s board of directors, Executive Leadership Team, and staff’s commitment to members as they continue to grow and thrive in the communities in which they live and work.

Basin Electric’s core values are the framework for what it means to be united as a cooperative.

Community: Serving our members.

Integrity: Doing the right thing. Always.

Reliability: Keeping the lights on.

Teamwork: Working together for the success of our members.

Safety: Driving our culture

Adaptability: Supporting our members, today and into the future.

“We are united as a team as we pursue this mission statement and values. They provide a unifying sense of purpose and speak to what we’re trying to accomplish for our members,” Todd Brickhouse, Basin Electric interim CEO and general manager, said. “As Basin Electric makes its way forward, the mission and values will serve as a reminder that a cooperative is owned by its members and it is, therefore, a responsibility of that cooperative to provide them with the power they need at a reasonable cost.”
