Troy Tweeten, Basin Electric senior vice president of Operations, has been appointed to Bismarck (North Dakota) State College’s (BSC) Polytechnic Business and Industry Leadership Team.

BSC will break ground on a new polytechnic education center on campus in 2022. The state-of-the-art facility will feature project-based learning and nontraditional, hands-on, collaborative working environments; flex labs where business and industry can partner on developing projects and ideas; and space for operating and building new programming and equipment and advancing applied research.

BSC’s expanded polytechnic mission focuses on combining in-depth theory with practical career and technical education resulting in industry certifications, certificates, associate degrees, and four-year bachelor of applied science technical degrees. It will also integrate stackable credentials within their programs that will interface with K-12 education and focus on what the business and industry needs to meet its growing workforce requirements.

The leadership team is made up of executives from the energy, agriculture, cybersecurity, manufacturing, and health care sectors. Tweeten is one of 12 representatives on the energy sector team, which is charged with helping shape and drive the key strategies needed to provide the academic programs and skills the region’s future workforce needs to be successful.

“The new polytechnic expansion will allow students from many different areas of study to work together, so for example, a student working on a four-year engineering degree will work on projects with a student in the two-year process plant technology program,” Tweeten said. “This real-life experience will help these students hit the ground running when they begin their careers, which will be a huge benefit to not just the students but the companies that hire them.”

The new facility is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.
