Induced draft fan replaced at Leland Olds Station

An induced draft fan motor at Leland Olds Station unit 2 has been replaced after the motor failed following a ground fault during a startup, causing the plant to be short 90 megawatts of power per day for the month of June and July.

According to Jason Cowan, plant manager at Leland Olds Station, a spare fan motor was available on site, however it, too, failed two months after installation. The original fan motor had been sent in to be completely rebuilt.

The newly refurbished fan motor was installed in early August, and “The plant has been available full load since then,” Cowan said.

The typical lifespan of an induced draft fan motor is 9-12 years.
