Employees from Basin Electric headquarters recently stepped away from their desks and traveled to Montana Limestone Company and Wyoming Lime Producers to see firsthand the operations their work supports.
The group included employees from accounting and procurement, along with members of Basin Electric's aviation and communications teams. During the trip, employees toured the Montana Limestone Company quarry and fine grind plant and the Wyoming Lime Producers’ Frannie Lime Plant, following the process from limestone extraction through its conversion into lime.
For Lucas Teigen, manager of Dakota Coal Company and Montana Limestone Company, the trip was an opportunity to strengthen the connection between the operations and employees at headquarters.
"I really want people to see the work we do at Montana Limestone," Teigen said. "It's a lot different from anything else at Basin, and the trip was really a way to highlight the work that we do out of Montana Limestone Company and Wyoming Lime and all the employees behind the work making it happen."
The experience helped employees better understand how their day-to-day responsibilities connect to operations in the field.
Calli Scheller, Basin Electric senior accounting analyst, works with invoicing for Montana Limestone Company and Wyoming Lime Producers. Seeing the process in person gave her new perspective on the information she works with every day.
"I got to see the processes that our people here go through every day to get me the information that I need in order to invoice our customers," Scheller said. "It was really educational to see what they go through, problems that they encounter, and maybe ways that we can work together to improve processes."
Basin Electric Chief Pilot Mark Scheele had flown employees to the area before but had never toured the operations.
"It's fascinating getting to see why we're coming to a place and how bringing people here is helping the company achieve its goals," Scheele said.
The visit gave employees a clearer picture of how limestone is quarried and processed into lime, while creating a better understanding of the people, processes, and partnerships behind the products that support Basin Electric's operations.
