Basin Electric, its subsidiaries, and the membership are committed to the communities where its employees and members work and live. Those communities have supported the cooperative throughout the years by providing a strong workforce, essential services, and a sense of pride. In return, the cooperative supports local charities through its annual Commitment to Community Campaign.
In 2025, $37,586 was raised by employees through pledges and additional donations. Basin Electric offers a dollar-for-dollar match, bringing the total contribution to $75,172.
This year’s fundraising efforts also included Candy for a Cause and a silent auction featuring items donated by employees.
Candy for a Cause, which allows employees to send candy bars to coworkers, raised $26,758 through a sale of 13,379 candy bars.
The silent auction brought in $14,043 in revenue, an all-time high.
“Team Basin shows dedication to our communities every day through the reliable and affordable energy and services we provide,” Todd Brickhouse, Basin Electric CEO and general manager, said. “Once a year, our Commitment to Community Campaign allows us to take that dedication even further by helping generate financial support for the communities where we live and work. This campaign gives each of us an opportunity to live out our civic responsibility and uphold one of our six cooperative values. This year, we raised $115,973! I’m incredibly proud of this achievement and grateful to everyone who contributed.”
Funds pledged by employees located in a community served by United Way were directed to the local United Way and agencies supported by it. Employees at facilities located in a community without a United Way chapter designated a local charity or nonprofit organization to receive their pledges.
As part of a separate effort to give back to local communities, the Casual for a Cause fundraiser allowed the cooperative to donate an additional $21,900 to the Great Plains Food Bank.
