Basin Electric employees donate $35,826 to local charities

In 2021, Basin Electric employees located at its headquarters raised $35,826 for Abused Adult Resource Center and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - North Dakota Chapter. Employees who participated donated money and were given the privilege of wearing jeans to work every day through a program called Casual for a Cause. The cooperative itself also donated $5,000 to support the cause through its charitable giving program.

Both organizations are committed to supporting community members.

Abused Adult Resource Center provides emergency support, crisis intervention, temporary shelter, food, counseling, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and domestic assault.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s work focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to individuals who have lost someone to suicide.

“The majority of our employees didn’t physically come back to the office until May 2021, so the program got a later start that usual. But despite that, we had great participation and were able to donate to two vital organizations in the community,” said Jennifer Holen, Basin Electric’s charitable giving coordinator.

Concern for community is one of the cooperative business model's seven cooperative principles.
