Basin Electric board adopts 2022 rate schedule

Basin Electric’s board of directors adopted the Rate Schedule A for 2022. Rate components were held from 2021 with a one-mill rate decrease for the electric heat rate.

“It is the intent to maintain the electric heat rate for at least five years,” said Becky Kern, Basin Electric director of long-term utility planning.

Kern said the rate schedule will be sent to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) within the next month, with approval anticipated by the end of the year. Because two of Basin Electric’s Class A members have become subject to FERC jurisdiction, Basin Electric no longer qualifies for an exemption from FERC regulation under the Federal Power Act.

More information will be mailed to Class A members in the coming weeks.
