cover of the 2022 Basin Electric Annual Report

The 2022 Basin Electric annual report has been sent to the printer and will be available online soon. The report focuses this year on how our cooperative provides reliable and affordable electricity to power a growing membership. Member features throughout the report highlight the stories of consumer-owners who have been able to thrive in their daily lives, supported by cooperative electricity that is reliable and affordable.

According to Tracie Bettenhausen, Basin Electric senior staff writer/editor and annual report editor, the report presents a review of 2022 business and financial activities including the cooperative’s all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes geographically diverse generation portfolio and transmission assets; how Basin Electric protects the membership from price volatility in the market; and how strong commodity prices and operational excellence at Dakota Gasification Company and record-setting demand and surplus power sales set the stage for a year of incredible financial performance.

Along with the annual report, recipients will receive the cooperative’s first Sustainability Report. The Sustainability Report tells the story of Basin Electric and our members’ distinguished track record of environmental stewardship, sound cooperative governance, and good citizenship through investments in our communities. The report, initially published online in November 2022, has been updated for April 2023.

Bettenhausen said employees across the cooperative contributed to the publication. The report was designed by Janene Pudwill, multimedia specialist III/senior graphic designer. Employees contributing photography to the report were Michael Hardy, multimedia specialist III/senior audio/visual producer, Greg Wheeler, multimedia specialist III/senior audio/visual producer, and Joy Schnabel, member relations assistant.

The report will be sent to member-system directors and managers, representatives of financial entities, and congressional delegates in Basin Electric's nine-state service area. It will also be provided to employees and affiliated organizations, such as statewide rural electric associations and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

The report will be available for download on Basin Electric's website.
