Basin Electric, members meet with Congressional Delegations during 2022 Spring Legislative Conference

Representatives from Basin Electric and member cooperatives visited Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., during the cooperative’s annual Legislative Conference the week of May 1.

The conference, held by National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), included visits with congressional delegates and their staffs from states representing participating cooperatives. Topics of conversation included key legislative activities in Congress, NRECA’s top legislative priorities, effective advocacy and engagement strategies, regional issues briefings and discussion, and more.

After the 2020 and 2021 conferences were held virtually due to COVID-19, Tyler Hamman, Basin Electric vice president of government relations, says it was valuable to have an opportunity to influence decision-makers and make connections in-person.

“It is a great opportunity to get some face time with members of congress and their staff, build relationships with them, and keep them up-to-date on issues that are important to Basin Electric and its members. If we don’t continually keep these issues at the top of their minds, we’ll lose out on opportunities to move them forward when they arise, so events like this are important.”
