Basin Electric partners with Powder River Energy Foundation to provide meals this holiday season

Basin Electric teamed up with Class C member's Powder River Energy’s Foundation to donate a total of $6,000 to the Silver Sage Senior Center in Wright, Wyoming. The $6,000 grant will go directly toward the Senior Center’s meals program expenses.

“Because people in our communities continue to experience challenges, as well as the charities that bring relief, Basin Electric matched our Foundation Board’s $3,000 commitment with another $3,000, for a total grant of $6,000 this Holiday season,” says Power River Energy Foundation executive director Jeff Bumgarner.

Silver Sage Senior Center President Deb Hazlett says, “Our focus is feeding our senior population either at the center or with home-delivery meals. This grant will help cover the rising costs of the meal delivery program for an entire year.”

Silver Sage averages about a half dozen shut-in seniors who receive a delivered lunch, and average 20 who dine at the facility. “We try to provide a peaceful and fun atmosphere during the seniors’ lunch time visit,” Hazlett says. “Besides meals, we also provide games, activities, and special speakers as much as possible.”

Basin Electric and Powder River Energy Corporation are both cooperatives, and giving to the communities they serve is part of the cooperative principles. Basin Electric frequently matches donations from members to increase the impact for local non-profit organizations.
