Former Basin Electric spokesperson and now retiree, Joan Dietz, has been recognized by the Lignite Energy Council (LEC) with the Ambassador of Lignite Award.

Every year the LEC honors lignite industry retirees not only for their successful careers but also for active participation with the LEC on various boards, committees, projects, and programs. Dietz received the award during LEC's annual meeting on Sept. 28.

Dietz retired in January 2022 as Basin Electric communications manager and spokesperson after 37 years with the cooperative.

Dietz began working at Dakota Gas' Great Plains Synfuels Plant in 1984 on contract in the Records department, and then was hired on permanently in March 1985. After two years in Records, she took a position in Human Resources. When Basin Electric purchased the Synfuels Plant in 1988, the Human Resources (HR) group was split into HR and Communications. She was in Communications the rest of her career, with the last seven years spent at Headquarters.
