Lonesome Creek Station, a natural gas-based peaking station west of Watford City, ND, started commercial operation in 2013.
The plant was built to serve the increasing demand for electricity by member cooperatives in northwest North Dakota. Units 1, 2 and 3, with a capacity of 45 megawatts (MW) each, are primarily used to support the local transmission system and serve loads developing in the area.
Phase III of the project will include two additional 45-MW units. Targeted commerical date for Phase III is 2017.
