Basin Electric Board Chairman Cliff Gjellstad announced today that its board of directors has named Andrew M. Serri as Basin’s next chief executive officer and general manager.

Serri, 50, will begin his tenure when Ron Harper, Basin’s current chief executive officer and general manager, retires at the end of the year. Serri is the fourth person to lead Basin since it was formed in 1961.

Serri has been with Ameren Corporation in St. Louis, MO, for the past eleven years. Since 2005, he has served as president and chief executive officer of Ameren Energy Marketing. Prior to his tenure with Ameren Corporation, he was employed with Progress Energy (formerly Carolina Power & Light) in Raleigh, NC. Before that he was employed with American Electric Power in Columbus, OH, for eighteen years.

Cliff Gjellstad, Basin Electric’s board president, said, “The Basin Electric board unanimously selected Serri following a national search conducted over several months. Serri’s background and industry experience, along with his personal traits that reflect Basin’s culture, make him an outstanding choice for this position,” Gjellstad said. “Andy is a trusted and well-respected leader, and we know that under his direction we will continue our mission of serving our members with reliable energy at the lowest possible cost.”

Serri said, “I am honored to be selected for this position and excited to face the challenging times ahead. To be given the opportunity to build upon the successes achieved by Basin Electric and its member-owners during Ron Harper’s tenure is truly humbling.  I have over thirty years of progressive utility experience and I have been working with and serving cooperative members for a large part of my career. I believe that my unique experience working with municipals and cooperatives and the respect that I have for the men and women of public power has helped me prepare for my role at Basin Electric.”
