Basin Electric added two new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrids to its vehicle fleet.

  • Basin Electric added two new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrids to vehicle fleet recently.
  • Plans to convert one hybrid into a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).
  • Basin Electric has had several all-electric vehicles in past; currently has a hybrid pickup and several E-85 capable vehicles.
  • Basin Electric working with Hymotion (Toronto, Canada) to do conversion to PHEV, possibly this summer.
  • Project is combined effort between Basin Electric and other cooperatives within the Renewable Distributed Energy Group (RDEG).
  • RDEG is part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Cooperative Research Network (CRN).
  • Basin Electric has received funding to do conversion through CRN and North Dakota State Energy Program.

  • Basin Electric is a consumer-owned, regional cooperative with its headquarters in Bismarck. It generates and transmits electricity to 125 member rural electric systems in nine states: Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. These member systems distribute electricity to about 2.5 million consumers.
  • Basin Electric purchases the entire output of three wind farms owned and operated by FPL Energy - one near Edgeley/Kulm and one near Wilton in North Dakota, and another near Highmore in South Dakota; and two other 750-kilowatt wind turbines, one located near Pipestone, Minn., and another near Rosebud, S.D.
