Allen D. Thiessen was seated on the Basin Electric board of directors Nov. 11 to represent District 8, Upper Missouri G&T Electric Cooperative, Sidney, MT. He replaces Dean E. McCabe, who retired.
Thiessen is serving his 26th year as a Lower Yellowstone REA board member and is currently serving as its president. For the past 12 years, he has represented Lower Yellowstone, which is also in Sidney, on the board of Upper Missouri. He served for 10 years on the board, six of those as president, of the Montana Electric Cooperatives’ Association, which is in Great Falls. He has also served on the board of the Midwest Electric Consumer’s Association in Denver for the past 11 years.
Thiessen was born in Sidney and raised on a farm south of Lambert, MT. He graduated from Lambert High School and attended Montana State University for two years in agriculture before returning to Lambert to start his own business. He is a partner in Town & County Repair in Lambert, which repairs automobiles, trucks and tractors. He is also a school bus contractor for the public schools in Lambert.
Thiessen is past president of the Lambert Sewer and Water Association, former member of the Lambert Volunteer Fire Department, founding board member of a teen center called the Lion’s Den and former board member of the Foundation for Community Care.
He and his wife Sue have two grown children, Angela (Olson) and Anthony, and six grandchildren, all of which reside in Sidney.
Thiessen is also the nephew of C.R. Thiessen, an incorporator of Basin Electric, who served as the board vice president from 1962 to 1975. He was Basin Electric president from December 1976 to December 1980 and retired from the Basin Electric board in 1982.
