In mid-January Patrick Schmitz, Basin Electric near-term load forecasting and scheduling coordinator, reported Basin Electric’s system likely hit a new all-time winter billing peak during the month. The previous all-time winter billing peak set in January 2011 was 2,698 megawatts.
The final numbers and date for the new peak will not be known until late February when calculations for the month are complete.
Dave Raatz, Basin Electric manager of marketing and power supply planning, said while member growth isn’t as high as in recent years, the new peak is an indication member load growth continues throughout the cooperative’s service area.
