The cooperative reception is a way to engage with congressional staff.

Basin Electric staff was in Washington, D.C. Sept. 20 to connect with staff of senators and representatives of the states Basin Electric serves.

According to Dale Niezwaag, Basin Electric senior legislative representative, cooperative staff from North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Colorado held a cooperative reception. “This is the fourth year we’re doing this and we normally have good participation in the event,” Niezwaag said. The event was sponsored by regional statewide associations and generation and transmission cooperatives.

A reception is a way to engage with congressional staff. “As lobbyists, it’s important to connect with congressional staff members outside of the formal business meetings we have, so they have an opportunity to get to know us and meet our co-op board members and others and we can get to know them,” Niezwaag said.
