Basin Electric employees piled gifts high underneath the Sharing Tree at Headquarters for the 12th year. In 2011, gifts for 60 kids were bought, wrapped, and lovingly topped with a Christmas tree ornament.
"It's actually kind of exciting. Susan (Vinje) and I have gone out shopping for multiple years, for employees who don't have the time. They'll give us the money and we shop for them. It's fun to look at the tag (which lists gender, age and clothing size), and imagine the kid you're shopping for. It's fun to help out somebody who needs it," said Vickie Volk, human resources assistant and Sharing Tree coordinator. Vinje and Shelly Wanek, both human resources assistants, also help coordinate the Sharing Tree giving. Watch the video to hear more about putting a gift under the Sharing Tree.
The gifts are given to the Welcome House and Aid Inc. in Mandan. The agencies distribute them to kids who wouldn’t get any Christmas gifts otherwise.
