A few dozen boys, ages 13 and under, show up a few times every month for soccer practice, but next week, when some members of the Dakota United Soccer Club (D.U.S.C.) get together, they won't be practicing their dribbling skills. Instead of using their feet, they'll be using their heads for a good cause.
In between the dribbling, passing and shots on goal, these kids decided to put their heads together and come up with something big.
"There's people out there with cancer and stuff that they lose their hair. They can't grow it back, so when I can grow it back, then I can tell them it's all right," said Cole Schaff, D.U.S.C. member.
A few members of the team decided to shave their heads as part of a fundraiser for childhood cancer research.
"My mom told me there was a fundraiser helping kids with cancer," said Michael Hertz, D.U.S.C. member. "I already helped with Haiti so I decided that cancer would be another cool thing to do."
For most of these kids, it's a simple matter of doing something to show support for others who are going through a tough time. "It's a lot different. They have so many problems, I have nothing," said Wyatt Holwhener, D.U.S.C. member.
Their coach jumped in to show his support and is shaving his head as well. "It's not a big deal. It'll grow back," said Joe Cleary, D.U.S.C team coach. "It's something small, if they're doing it, I figure I can do it."
He says he's proud of the kids for stepping up and helping out.
