Bismarck, N.D. (AP) Basin Electric Power Cooperative is still looking for customers for carbon dioxide gas. The Bismarck electric power producer is developing a project to retain some of the carbon dioxide produced at its Antelope Valley power station near Beulah. Preliminary engineering work should be finished next month.
Basin Electric lobbyist Curtis Jabs briefed North Dakota lawmakers about the project on Wednesday. He said it will be difficult to make it work if Basin can't sell the captured carbon dioxide, and it doesn't have a buyer yet. Basin is already a major carbon dioxide supplier for oil producers in southern Saskatchewan. The gas comes from the Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah. It's generated when lignite coal is processed to make natural gas.
