Among the show pieces at the Great Plains Expo at the Bismarck Civic Center was a car with a difference. Basin Electric says it`s Ford Escape hybrid, turned plug-in.

Basin Electric's Ford Escape Hybrid now has a new accessory: a plug.
With some creative work and a lot of technical expertise, the hybrid was converted to a plug-in today at the first annual Great Plains Energy Exposition at the Bismarck Civic Center.
The event is being hosted by Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND), and Basin Electric is a major sponsor.
In May, Basin Electric added two new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrids to the vehicle fleet. Basin Electric partnered with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Cooperative Research Network (CRN) and the state of North Dakota to convert one of the Ford Escapes into a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) - to use electricity as fuel.
Technicians performed the conversion during the conference, and are on hand to answer questions. The conversion was performed by A123Systems of Massachusetts and Hymotion of Ontario, Canada.
