With her decades of experience in the energy industry and efforts to work with both sides of the aisle, U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp is a respected leader in North Dakota and Washington on coal and energy issues. She recently brought EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy to North Dakota to hear how its policies and proposals are impacting the state, hosted an informative Coal Technology Symposium on Capitol Hill, and has traveled to Canada to meet with officials and discuss some of their innovative work with coal-fired power. And prior to joining the Senate, she worked at Dakota Gasification for more than a decade where she learned the nuances of energy issues and CCS. Her bill brings together ideas and lessons from all of these experiences.
The Advanced Clean Coal Technology Investment in Our Nation (ACCTION) Act would incentivize technologies that reduce the carbon footprint of coal-fired power. It provides such incentives through federal funding programs, offers federal support for private investment, and requires reports to Congress with recommendations on how best to support future carbon capture and storage projects in the United States.
U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and 26 other senators signed a letter May 7, 2013, to the chairman and ranking member of the subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies. The letter asserts the vital role of Rural Utilities Service electric loans in maintaining strong infrastructure in the United States. Read the letter: Senators support RUS
