Load Management

Load management programs help our members save money and electricity.

Member Load Management Program

Approximately half of Basin Electric's members are using load management to manage their power purchases from Basin Electric. Other members have investigated load management, but the high load factor of their commercial loads and the system cost results in marginal economics.

Basin Electric's members that currently have a load management system include:

• Central Power Electric Cooperative,
• East River Electric Power Cooperative,
• L & O Power Cooperative,
• Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative,
• Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative,
• Roughrider Electric Cooperative, and
• Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association.

Basin Electric Load Management Program

Basin Electric has implemented an east-side system-wide load management program that enables it to target large loads and/or generation not included in the members' load management programs to be used during Basin Electric's seasonal peak periods. Basin Electric has approximately six to 10 megawatts of load management available at this time.
