Our employees donate their time and talent to serving their communities and are encouraged to participate in civic, charitable and community organizations of particular interest to them. Employees have the opportunity to use company time to participate in charitable events, but many also use their own time to make a difference. Charitable events Basin Electric employees actively participate in include:
Basin Electric employees also make an individual effort to volunteer for organizations such as the Ruth Meiers Hospitality House, Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics, Rebuilding Together, Relay for Life, Big Brother Big Sister, Abused Adult Resource Center and Tracy's Sanctuary House.
In addition, employees are encouraged to help those less fortunate through contributions to AID Inc., Bismarck Emergency Food Pantry, the Sharing Tree, Jeans Day and Fill the Bus.
Now in its eighth year, Missouri Slope Areawide United Way’s Day of Caring has grown to include volunteers representing 47 businesses within the community.

Roger Zarfos, former Basin Electric employee, organized the co-ed charity softball tournament in 1983. Initially, the tournament was only for Basin Electric employees; however, after a few successful years, the event grew to include many other companies. The tournament was named in honor of Zarfos following his death in 1987.

The annual event has grown to be the largest fundraiser of its kind in the United States. The donated dollars fund equipment and services, such as wheelchairs, orthotics and therapy, enable persons with CP and other disabilities to live independently.
Christmas is the giving season, and during the holidays Basin Electric employees volunteer time to bring cheer to the lives of those in need. During the month of December, employees join the fundraising efforts of the Salvation Army by ringing bells to help collect donations and hopefully fill the traditional red kettles seen across the nation.
Basin Electric employees enjoy giving of themselves in any way possible. One way they demonstrate commitment to their communities is by taking part in blood drives held several times throughout the year at Basin Electric facilities.
Basin Electric employees also participate in relays and other activities throughout the year including:
