Minot Wind 2 construction |
PrairieWinds ND 1 Inc. was formed to develop a new 115.5 megawatt (MW) wind project south of Minot, ND. Construction began in August 2009 and was complete in late December 2009. Power from PrairieWinds will flow to Basin Electric’s customers through an interconnection with Western Area Power Administration’s transmission system.
The North Dakota PrairieWinds project is the largest wind project owned and operated by an electric cooperative in the United States
PrairieWinds ND 1 Inc. also owns Minot Wind 2, which is a 4.5 MW wind project located south of Minot, ND. Construction of this project began in August 2009 and was complete in early December 2009, Minot Wind 2 consists of three GE 1.5sle turbines once complete.
PrairieWinds SD 1 Inc. was formed to develop wind projects in South Dakota. What will eventually be known as the PrairieWinds SD 1 wind project is currently in the engineering and permitting stages. Construction is scheduled to being sometime in late 2010.
