Boards of Directors

Basin Electric is a not-for-profit membership cooperative. Directors serve on the boards of Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Dakota Gasification Company, Dakota Coal Company, Montana Limestone Company, and Basin Telecommunications, Inc.

Each director is elected and represents one of Basin Electric's membership districts (view map). The directors have been elected to the boards of their local distribution systems and then, with the exception of Districts 9 and 10, to their respective intermediate generation and transmission systems. Districts 9 and 10, which have no intermediate supplier, are served directly by Basin Electric.

Basin Electric currently has 135 member systems. Membership classifications are A, B, C, or D according to stipulations set forth in the bylaws. Members submit applications and pay a fee to become a member of Basin Electric, and must accept all the terms for membership as established the board or the members. Membership is not transferable, and no member may hold more than one membership. Our member systems currently provide service to 2.8 million consumers.
